Both West Carrollton and Oakwood City Schools are asking voters to approve additional funding on the November 8 Ballot.
New funding for West Carrollton City Schools hasn’t been approved in nine years. So, when voters rejected the district’s 5.5 mill levy last March, the situation became dire. West Carrollton cut bus transportation for high school and preschool students. It also cut $215,000 from school services.
The original levy is back on the ballot this fall. District officials say if it doesn’t pass this time, teacher positions could be cut.
Oakwood City Schools has a 5.75 mill levy on the ballot. But, in contrast to West Carrollton, it’s only been three years since voters approved new funding for the district. In fact, Oakwood voters have passed school-tax levies four times since 2004. In a recent statement, the district said the extra funds are needed to maintain academic programs.
