Some Cincinnati Parks, Summer Camps And Pools Set To Open For Summer

If you visit an outdoor pool operated by the city of Cincinnati this summer, you'll need to schedule a reservation before arriving.

That's one of Cincinnati Recreation Commission and City Parks safety precautions as it plans to open for summer during the pandemic.

Parks Explore summer camps will open for most children on June 8 and continue through July 31. The various weeklong nature programming will take place at the city's nature centers and parks.

"This summer we will be hosting our camps at Trailside Nature Center, California Woods, LaBoiteaux Woods, Stanbery Park, Ault Park, French Park and Mt. Airy Forest," Cincinnati Parks Director Kara Kish says.

She says children will have their temperature taken daily before joining a small group.

The organizations will follow CDC and Ohio health guidelines as programs open.

Preschool and grandparent camps will not open due to social distancing and safety concerns.

Most of the CRC day camp sites will open on June 8. Not all children currently signed up for a summer camp will get in due to new capacity restrictions. CRC staff will help families in Pleasant Ridge and Oakley, which have now moved to a lottery system, find other options for this summer if necessary.

Cincinnati Recreation Commission Director Daniel Betts says they're also committed to serving people with disabilities. "There is a need to offer that for our special need population and our citizens who are living with some form of mental or physical disability," he says.

CRC will continue to release details on its website.
