The River City News

The United States Coast Guard says a crewman was asleep at the wheel when a towboat hit the Ludlow-Bromley Yacht Club in October.

The floating restaurant sank hours after the collision on the Ohio River. No one was hurt when 15 barges collided with the yacht club Oct. 2. Lieutenant Jim Brendel says in a statement the Coast Guard's investigation found the mate-on-watch was asleep at the controls of the Dale Artigue, and while two other crew members were on duty, they weren't assigned to navigation watch duties.

The Coast Guard has initiated administrative enforcement action against the mate's merchant mariner credential.
