Cincinnati native and World Cup Champion Rose Lavelle is being recognized with a key to the city.
Lavelle graduated from Mount Notre Dame High School, where she was a standout player, and was the No. 1 National Women's Soccer League draft pick in 2017. She currently is a midfielder with the NWSL's Washington Spirit.
Mayor John Cranley says Lavelle's pride for the city and her high school alma mater stand out. "I don't know about you but I think in Cincinnati, we have a role model for little girls and her name is Rose Lavelle," he says.
Mayor Cranley and Hamilton County Commissioner Denise Driehaus marked July 19th as Rose Lavelle Day.
"Any time someone asks me where my dream vacation is I always say Cincinnati," She says. " Everyone thinks I'm crazy. You all might think I'm crazy too." In her speech she said Skyline, Graeter's and "that baby hippo" make Cincinnati special but that it's the people that stand out most to her.
