As you were outside waiting for the big Fourth of July fireworks to start, you may have been lucky enough to enjoy nature's light show, put on by fireflies, or lightning bugs as they are known in our region, looking for mates.
There are more than 2,000 species of fireflies, which are really a type of beetle. Each species has its own flashing pattern, and their lights can appear yellow, green, orange or even blue.
Joining "Cincinnati Edition" to look at the fascinating world of glow worms, fireflies and lightning bugs are Cincinnati Nature Center Education Director Connie O'Connor; and Director of Conservation & Stewardship, Dr. Cory Christopher.
