The Cincinnati ReelAbilities Film Festival is getting a new name and focus.
Former chair Kim Vincent says the Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival will still explore topics of disability, but will also now include diverse race, gender, sexuality, sexual identity and faith.
"We are doing this because... disability knows no gender, no race, no faith, no sexual orientation. It crosses all boundaries and in the end can unite us across our differences."
The festival is being programmed by Opal H. Bennett and Adam Prion.
Bennet, organizers say, is "one of very few African-American film programmers nationwide." She has worked with the Nantucket Film Festival, Tribeca, and Sundance London.
Prion is a member of the Kiowa and Mohawk nations and serves on the Sundance Film Festival's Short Film programming team and is manager for Sundance Institute's Native American and Indigenous Film Program.
The five day festival will be spread across multiple venues, mostly in Over-the-Rhine. It runs Sept. 26 -30, 2018.
Last year's event drew nearly 10,000 people.
