Downtown Covington plays a supporting role in NBC's new "Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love" Wednesday (9 p.m., Channel 5).

Covington portrays Sevierville, Tenn., in 1955, according to a story on the Covington News website.

"The store fronts and the types of cars we had parked in the streets and had driving by, the vintage Christmas decorations, all took us back to Christmas 1955," executive producer Sam Haskell tells Covington News.

In the sequel to Parton's 2015 "Coat of Many Colors," the Parton family makes sacrifices to buy their mom the wedding ring their father could never afford.

Another story line involves little Dolly (Alyvia Alyn Lind) meeting "an important person" who shows the girl "that her amazing voice and musical gift might just be made for something bigger than rural Tennessee."
