Voters in the Southwest Local School District rejected a combination bond issue and tax levy for new school construction Tuesday, while voters in two Hamilton County communities passed tax levy renewals.
Tuesday was an election day in Ohio, but very little was on the ballot and most polling places were closed. Warren and Clermont counties had nothing on the ballot.
In the Southwest Local School District, which includes 14 precincts in Hamilton County and one in Butler County, 57 percent of those who went to the polls rejected the combined bond issue and tax levy. It would have funded construction of a new junior high school and renovations to William Henry Harrison High School.
For an August election, turnout in the school district was relatively high – nearly 29 percent.
In Mount Healthy, voters overwhelming approved a tax renewal for current expenses. The vote was 175 to 49, but the voter turnout in Mount Healthy was only five percent.
In Elmwood Place, 6.35 percent of the voters turned out to approve two tax levy renewals.
One was for police services and it passed with 65 votes in favor and 13 against. The second was to pay for fire and emergency medical services; and 63 voted in favor while 13 were opposed.
