Nearly 3,000 acres of land in the Wayne National Forest were auctioned off for oil and gas development this week. Critics say it will damage the region’s natural resources, but industry officials feel it will be a boon for the area.

The federal government took a major step forward Friday toward opening more than 2,800 acres of Ohio’s only national forest to oil and gas development.
