Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the department won't stop using GPS ankle devices or seeking to detain and deport Haitian immigrants who no longer have Temporary Protected Status.

The Ohio college student died on Aug. 31. He was among Haitian immigrants required by ICE to wear an ankle monitor or face deportation.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has already been sending letters to Haitians in Springfield to report to an ICE office in suburban Cincinnati.

Contracts between Ohio police departments and sheriff's offices with Immigration and Customs Enforcement have increased since President Donald Trump's second term in office began.

The suit filed in federal court in Columbus Wednesday asks the court to order agents to stop making warrantless arrests without determining escape risks, among other things.

Joyce Beatty introduced H.R. 7785, which would mandate body cameras for ICE agents, require the officers to display clear ID, forbid masks and require de-escalation training. Beatty applauded President Donald Trump for removing Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security.

The blog's author, D.J. Byrnes of Columbus, wrote that Noem "will have to die in prison. No other way around it." The social media platform banned Byrnes for violent speech and abuse.

Beatty held a roundtable behind closed doors with Columbus police, elected officials, faith leaders and immigrant community leaders. Beatty criticized ICE, saying Noem should be removed from office.

Three people, including two students, were arrested at the Ohio Union on Tuesday over a protest targeting Customs and Border Protection recruiters during the annual spring career fair.

"Operation Buckeye" ran from Dec. 16 - Dec. 21. Meanwhile, hundreds at the Ohio Statehouse on Thursday night protested the death of Renee Good, who was shot and killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
