President Joe Biden bestowed the nation’s highest military honor onto Girard native Kenneth David and Steubenville native Fred McGee.

Army Cpl. Fred B. McGee, of Steubenville, is being recognized for his gallantry and intrepidity near Tang-Wan-Ni, Korea, on June 16, 1952. Kenneth J. David, of Girard, drew enemy fire away from injured comrades and onto himself, becoming wounded by a satchel charge while fighting in Vietnam on May 7, 1970.

President Biden awarded the Medal of Honor to two Union soldiers who stole a locomotive in Confederate territory and drove it north while destroying railroad tracks and telegraph lines.

Sgt. Maj. Milton M. Holland, and First Sgts. Robert Pinn, Powhatan Beaty and James H. Bronson stepped up and were able to lead their companies to victory.
