Historical Preservation

The Cuyahoga Valley National Park owns and maintains about 300 buildings. Even though the park is operating without federal funding due to the government shutdown, its budget is typically limited for preservation and upkeep, officials say.

Akron City Council approved a plan that puts a 60-day moratorium on demolition. If a new use for the building is not found during that time, the city will proceed with demolition.

The city of Columbus put $1 million toward the project. Franklin County put $1.5 million forward and the state added another $1.25 million.
