The Columbus Crew today named Henrik Rydström as the team's ninth head coach on Wednesday.
Rydström, 49, replaces Wilfried Nancy, who left the Crew earlier in December to lead Scottish club Celtic F.C.
Rydström recently led Malmo in Sweden's top soccer division. In 2023, Rydström led Malmo to the Allsvenskan championship with a 20-6-4 record. In 2024, he led the team to back-to-back titles and a Swedish Cup victory.
Crew General Manager Issa Tall said in a statement that Rydström has proven his leadership ability through an established coaching and playing career.
“During the head coaching search, we prioritized candidates’ personalities and care for their club as a whole, in addition to their coaching accolades. Henrik fully embodies these traits as the Crew’s head coach," Tall said.
Rydström will be joined by assistant coach Theodor Olsson and first team analyst Mak Pakhei.
Crew goalkeeper coach Phil Boerger will stay on as will head of video and data analysis Marc O’Neill.
