Welcome To The Jungle: Carpe Diem String Quartet Stops By Classical 101 Studio

Classical 101 Host Jennifer Hambrick chats with Carpe Diem String Quartet musicians in our studio.

A classical string quartet covers a Guns N’ Roses hit.

Outlandish? Why, yes! But it happened right here in the Classical 101 studio yesterday afternoon, when Carpe Diem String Quartet stopped by on the eve of their first concert of the 2018-19 season – a season packed with a new concert series, a new performance home and a whole bunch of other new stuff to boot.

Check out this video to hear Carpe Diem violinist Chas Wetherbee’s violin impersonation of Axl Rose. Plus, hear the quartet perform previews of the first concert in their new Thursday Night Live series, tonight at 6:30 in the Columbus Museum of Art, and of their first Sunday concert of 2018-19, this Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 in the museum.

Also, learn about the group’s new recording of Jeff Midkiff’s music for mandolin and string quartet, which Carpe Diem inspired, and about their upcoming repeat performance at one of the world’s musical meccas (Hint: Think Carpe Diem takes Manhattan. Again.).

The first concert in the Carpe Diem String Quartet’s Thursday Night Live series is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Columbus Museum of Art.
