Every week is concert week on Classical 101. Tune in to hear everything from Ravel to Bach with witty insight and conversation from hosts in-the-know. Here's a sneak peek of what's on the menu for next week, May 15th-21st:

Sunday, May 15:

1:00 PM, Columbus Symphony Orchestra Broadcast

Dvorak's Symphony No. 7

After enjoying the debut of Brahms's 3rd Symphony and at the request of the Philharmonic Society of London, Dvorak began his 7th Symphony about which he stated: "the first subject of my new symphony flashed in to my mind on the arrival of the festive train bringing our countrymen from Pest." (meaning Budapest)

8:00 PM, Musica Sacra

Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ is a suitably dramatic orchestral work. The textures and string section expressions sound especially Mozart-ian to my ears, or rather, the sound of this work by Hadyn can be heard in Mozart's symphonic textures. In fact, the two composers were friends, although Hadyn was already a famous and accomplished composer by the time Mozart was just a child.

Monday, May 16:

Tuesday, May 17:

Elgar's Symphony No. 1 is one of only two complete symphonies by the composer. The work was planned and sketched for over a decade, so audiences were relieved at its debut in 1908. Thankfully the people and the press enjoyed the work greatly. The Musical Times declared the work an "immediate and phenomenal success."

Friday, May 20:

John Adams' Chamber Symphony
