8:00 PM, Musica Sacra with host Christopher Purdy
Handel's Israel in Egypt seamlessly weaves together passages from the Exodus and Psalms. The work premiered in London in 1739. This work is also thought to be the earliest known musical recording; a wax cylinder featuring the voices of nearly 1,000 singers was recorded by Col. George Gouraud in 1888.
Monday, January 18:
7:00 pm, Essential Classics: "Music you know you know; even if you don’t know you know it."
Moonlight Sonata is certainly one of the most well-known piano sonatas around the world. Even the great Frédéric Chopin found the work utterly mesmerizing. So much so, he composed his lovely Fantaisie-Impromptu as a tribute to Beethoven and even structured the work much like the Moonlight Sonata.
Tuesday, January 19:
7:00 PM, The American Sound takes listeners across the country with host Jennifer Hambrick.
On the occasion of the premiere of Columbus Neighborhoods: New Americans, The American Sound offers a program of "American Inspiration."
Wednesday, January 20:
7:00 PM, Fretworks features the sounds of our favorite stringed instruments introduced by host John Rittmeyer.
This week, American guitarist Eliot Fisk plays his arrangement of a keyboard sonata by Domenico Scarlatti

Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez features classical guitar and orchestra in a stunning 20th-Century composition rife with political context and the evocative sounds of nature.
Friday, January 22:
7:00 PM Classical 101 presents The San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas with works by Prokofiev and Berlioz.
Saturday, January 23:
1:00 PM, Metropolitan Opera Broadcast
This week the Metropolitan Opera presents Wagner's epic Tannhauser; a tale of bliss and ultimate sacrifice.
6:00 PM, The American Sound with host Jennifer Hambrick
Music by some of Vaudeville's biggest stars, including Louis Alter, Russell Alexander and Irving Berlin steal the show.
