Arts Highlights In Columbus For November 2018

It seems as if late October and early November is prime time for our orchestras, theaters and dance and opera companies.

I was running out of energy to update my own concert calendar. There's so much going on in Columbus and nothing worth missing.

Look at the variety! I'm here to tell you that quantity and quality are very close partners.

Ohio Theatre
Jonathan Weir, who plays the villain Jafar, is a graduate of Westerville South High School. He wouldn’t tell me the year – not recently. He came to visit and was delightful!

Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Chorus: Handel's Messiah
Nov. 9 and 10
Ohio Theatre
Rossen Milanov conducts Handel's sacred oratorio. Ronald Jenkins directs the Columbus Symphony Chorus. Hear Handel's complete score, combining the Christmas and Easter portions, in the Ohio Theatre.

ProMusica Chamber Orchestra: Mozart & Montero
Nov. 10 and 11
Southern Theatre
As part of ProMusica's Composer/Performer project, the chamber orchestra features pianist Gabriela Montero on a program comparing two Beethoven symphonies, plus Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 14 and the world premiere of Babel by Montero.

Early Music in Columbus: Apollo'sFire
Nov. 11
Mees Hall, Capital University
"Cleveland's baroque orchestra" returns to Columbus to perform O Jerusalem!, a sequel to the orchestra's Sephardic Journey program, conducted by Jeannette Sorrell.

Chamber Music Columbus: St. Lawrence String Quartet
Nov. 17
Southern Theatre
The Canadian string quartet performs a program of works by Haydn, Berger and Tchaikovsky.
