This week, I had the pleasure of talking with JoAnn Falletta. Music director of both the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Virginia Symphony orchestras, Maestra Falletta is in Columbus to conduct the Columbus Symphony, 8 p.m. Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 in the Ohio Theatre.
On the program is Johannes Brahms' First Symphony, Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 with Alexi Kenney and two pieces by Lili Boulanger: D'un soir triste and D'un matin de printemps.
I first encountered Maestra Falletta about 10 years ago. Her conducting is extraordinary. She has the gift of bringing out new colors in music you thought you knew.
