Hunger in America: it’s not just about food.
Peel back the layers and often those going without are women who are dealing with a range of societal issues, including generational trauma, racism, discrimination and violence.
They’re often pitted against those with more power, privilege and the ability to make and shape policy.
This hour, Mariana Chilton, a long-time researcher and the author of the book The Painful Truth About Hunger shares what she’s learned about hunger from those who experience it.
She also discusses why public assistance programs like SNAP, hailed as an antidote, is an imperfect one at best.

- Mariana Chilton, author/professor of practice, Dept. of Nutrition, University of Massachusetts-Amherst
