What's behind America's fascination with true crime stories?

For centuries, humans have been entertained by death. From Edgar Allan Poe’s morbid literature to true crime documentaries and horror movies.

Eighty-four percent of the U.S. population aged 13 and older are true crime consumers, according to a recent report. There are a variety of ways to consume true crime stories from podcasts to TV shows to movies to books and more.
