Hugh Warwick may be one of the biggest hedgehog lovers on the planet.

He's performed stand-up routines about them, had their image inked on his body and filled his office with memorabilia about the mammals.

Yet, as an ecologist, Warwick also knows that hedgehogs, for all their cuteness, are a menace. They steal bird eggs and imperil other populations.

Sometimes you have to kill a species you love in order to save another.
