J.Crew said it hopes the bankruptcy filing will help it get its finances in order while it keeps running, though for now under COVID-19 restrictions.

J. Crew exemplified the preppy lifestyle of summers on Cape Cod, college regattas and weekends in the country.

The brand not only sold clothing, but it symbolized an aspirational and affordable lifestyle.

The company fell out of fashion somewhere along the way.

However, the all-American brand made a comeback.
