Jason Stephens, the new speaker of the Ohio house is a Republican of course.
Stephens has roots in local government, and just three years under his belt in the Ohio General Assembly.
His surprise election to the powerful speaker's role signals a much different approach from the presumptive choice, the more conservative Derek Merrin of northwest Ohio.
It took a cadre of Democratic votes to make it happen.
Joining us to discuss Stephens and this shift in conservative politics are reporters Andrew J. Tobias, Anna Staver and Andy Chow.
Guests:
- Andrew J. Tobias, Statehouse reporter for Cleveland.com
- Anna Staver, Statehouse reporter for the USA TODAY Network Ohio Bureau
- Andy Chow, reporter for the Ohio Public Radio Statehouse News Bureau
