The adolescent mental health crisis is well documented.

Depression, anxiety and self-harm are rising among American teens and many parents blame technology—typically the screen in their pockets.

But conversations around technology, screen time and their impact on kids are rarely nuanced.

According to a pair of Harvard researchers, open and empathetic conversations between youth and their parents are crucial to helping kids grow up in the digital world.

Today on Tech Tuesday, a guide to having those conversations.

Guests:

  • Will Oremus, Staff Writer, Washington Post
  • Emily Weinstein Principal Investigator at Harvard’s Project Zero and a Lecturer at the Graduate School of Education. Author of Behind Their Screens: What Teens Are Facing (and Adults Are Missing)
  • Russell Holly, Managing Editor for Commerce at CNET
