The gender pay gap in the U.S. is alive and well. According to data reviewed by The Wall Street Journal it kicks in earlier than many people think even among those with the same degree from the same school.

It shows up in fields from the law to dentistry to accounting and persists well beyond the early workforce years.

We take a look at what this means for our understanding of the gender pay gap and at strategies for improving equity.
