This episode originally aired on October 7, 2021.

Local news has been declining for years leaving an increasing number of communities in so-called news deserts.

More than 90 local newsrooms have closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some have ended because of mergers, others have simply gone out of business.

But not everyone is doom and gloom. Small news organizations with a strong presence in a community can still survive if they adapt to the needs of their community.

Today on All Sides with Ann Fisher, we’re looking at the importance of local news organizations and the impact on their communities.
