National Coming Out Day 2021 will take place on Monday, October 8.

Coming out is a crucial moment that has potential negative repercussions in an individual’s personal and professional life.

For many, the process occurs during college. Maybe in the dorm. Maybe the classroom. Maybe during a late-night conversation with a new friend. Increasingly, the institution itself is part of the process.

We’ll look at how coming out on campus has, or hasn’t, evolved. What role do college and universities have in giving agency to LGBTQ people in the closet?

Guests:

  • Cyd Zeigler is a commentator and author in the field of sexuality and sports. Zeigler co-founded Outsports and the National Gay Flag Football League
  • Densil Porteous, executive director of Stonewall Columbus
  • Brian Orefice, vice president of Scarlet and Gay, Ohio State's LGBTQ Alumni Society
  • Shane Windmeyer, founder and executive director of Campus Pride, the leading national LGBTQ organization for student leaders and campus organizations working to build future leaders and create safer campus communities
