Conventional wisdom posits that as we age, our metabolism slows and losing weight isn’t as easy as it once was.

But is middle-aged spread inevitable? Not necessarily.

According to new research, your resting metabolic rate is likely the same in your 40s and 50s as it was in your 20s.

It turns out, the factors that do contribute to midlife weight gain are within our control.
