The operator of the nation’s largest fuel pipeline has confirmed it paid $4.4 million to a gang of hackers who broke into its computer systems. That's according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

Ransomware attacks have crippled gas lines, meat suppliers, hospitals, cities and more in recent months.

Increasingly, those under attack are paying up, Colonial Pipeline and meat supplier JBS paid $4.4 million and $11 million, respectively. The Biden administration is stepping up enforcement efforts and urging groups not to pay.
