Today’s inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will take place in the shadow of a pandemic, without the usual celebratory crowds and balls.

Biden also takes office just weeks after a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, and amid one of the most divisive eras in American history.
