In Ohio, the statute of limitations for rape is 20 years. Tort laws cap how much sexual assault survivors can recover from their perpetrators.
In January, a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge sided with the defendant in reducing a settlement from $20 million to $250,000 for a plaintiff who was repeatedly raped as an 11-year-old girl.
Now, the legal community and Ohio lawmakers are rethinking the consequences of settlement caps and the statute of limitationswhen it comes to rape.
