Facebook agreed to settle a $550 million class-action lawsuit over its use of facial recognition technology in Illinois. It is believed to be the one of the largest civil settlements involving consumer privacy in U.S. history.
Social media users accused the company of violating a biometrics privacy law in Illinois that requires consumer consent to use their photos.
Facebook said the accusations have no merit, but it decided to settle the case for expediency’s case.
