A roughly $260 million settlement was reached yesterday in a landmark federal opioid lawsuit. Two ohio counties, Cuyahoga and Summit, were the plaintiffs with three of the largest drug distributors slated as the defendants.

The settlement was reached hours before trial was set to begin Monday, October 21.

Local officials say the settlement money will address the short term effects of the opioid epidemic, as well as create services for drug treatment and prevention programs.

But detoxing communities ravaged by addiction, could take years.

Today on All Sides, the historic opioid trials, Ohio settlements, and what it means for affected communities.
