Editorial cartoons have played a role in public discourse since the beginning of the Republic -- and have pushed the limits of free speech, often inviting lawsuits for libel.

The cartoonists say that’s their job.

This commitment to the First Amendment is on display in an exhibit at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum.
