All Sides Extra: Author Interview T. Geronimo Johnson

Welcome to Braggsville is a novel about three generation X-ers with a tragic twist.

Four students at UC Berkeley return to Braggsville, Georgia hometown of protagonist D'aron Davenport. Shocked at Braggville's regular Civil War reenactment, in a town with many a Confederate flags flying, the friends decide to stage a counter reenactment.

Tragic consequences are at the heart of a novel that's profound, sad and very funny.

Meet D'aron, small town boy who arrives at UC Berkely to have all of his sensibilities awakened and expanded. His three best friends are Candice, a nice white girl from Iowa; Louis, a "kung fu comedian" from California; and Charlie, a serious-minded African-American from Chicago. Together, they christen their new home "Bezerkeley." When the four arrive in Braggsville Georgia on a visit the consequences become tragic and funny.

T. Geronimo Johnson is the author of of Hold it Til it Hurts, finalist for the 2013 Pen FAulkner Prize for Ficiton. Johnson is currently visiting professor at the Iowa Writers Worskshop.
