Progress For Transgender Employment Despite Uneven Legal Protections
On a recent Saturday in May, the atrium at Cleveland’s MetroHealth hospital was the site of a typical-looking job fair — people in suits shook hands and swapped business cards with company reps who sat behind tables adorned with mounds of branded freebies. Among the 24 companies, there were some big names including Starbucks, PNC Bank and Progressive Insurance. Floating from table to table, leather portfolio in hand, was Nicolette Baldwin. After about 90 minutes, Baldwin, 42, had spoken with reps from nearly every company there.
Guinness Opens Its First U.S. Brewery In 64 Years
Guinness spent $90 million on the Open Gate Brewery near Baltimore, Md., where it hopes to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Dr. Thomas Gilson Speaks on Capitol Hill Thursday
Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson testified on Capitol Hill Thursday. He was part of a Senate panel addressing the increased use of synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl and carfentanyl, in the U-S. Less than six months into 2017, Gilson predicts an approximately 21 percent increase in total overdose deaths compared to last year in Cuyahoga County.

Monitor Outlines Year Two for Cleveland Police Consent Decree
The monitors overseeing Cleveland’s police reform agreement are asking a federal judge to approve their plan for year two of the project. In December, the monitor asked for changes to the city’s plan for upgrading equipment. That plan must be revised and finalized in the coming weeks.

Speeds To Slow In Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Starting Tuesday the speed limit on county roads in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park will go down from 55 miles per hour to 35. From Ohio Public Radio station WKSU, Kevin Niedermier reports. The 20 mph reduction is an effort to make it safer for bicyclists, horseback riders, and pedestrians who share the curvy and hilly roads with cars.

Bi-partisan Challenge To Ohio's Online Harassment Law
Several on-line commentators from opposite ends of the political spectrum have joined forces to challenge the constitutionality of an Ohio law prohibiting internet harassment. From member station WOSU, Sam Hendren reports. The federal lawsuit was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cleveland. It alleges that a prohibition against knowingly posting text or audio statements or images on a website or web page for the purpose of abusing or harassing someone violates the commentators' rights to free speech and expression.
