Cuyahoga County announced Tuesday it’s opening an Emergency Operations Center in response to the county’s three confirmed cases of COVID-19. Bass player Kevin Martinez leads a celebration of the birth of the most important figures in jazz, Miles Davis, Friday evening. To mark the occasion Martinez will front a ten piece ensemble that performs music from one the trumpeter’s most important early recordings, known as the “Birth of the Cool” sessions, in 1949 and 1950.

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most important jazz musicians to come from Cleveland- Tadd Dameron. The East Central Jazz Educators All-Star Big Band co-led by Youngstown State University’s Kent Englehardt and Cuyahoga Community College’s Steve Enos are celebrating the event by performing music from “The Magic Touch,” an album that’s considered to be one of Dameron’s finest recordings.
