  • UH-Parma Medical Center is closing its maternity department at the end of the year. The 332-bed hospital in the southwestern suburb of Cleveland will stop delivering babies on Dec. 1. The Parma facility will, however, continue to offer prenatal doctor visits and after-delivery services for patients, said Brian Monter, the hospital's president.
  • Kindergarten-readiness program PRE4CLE has grown significantly over its relatively short life so far, according to its five year report released this week. "We are really happy to see that we have almost 5,000 children now in high-quality preschool in the city of Cleveland, and that is a 72 percent increase from where we started five years ago," said executive director Katie Kelly.

Yost filed the request with Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor under a state law allowing the suspension of local officials charged with felonies for conduct in office. If Johnson does not voluntarily step aside, O’Connor could appoint a three-judge panel to decide on his suspension.

Executive director Jill Paulsen said the losses were drastic. “We saw almost 3,200 jobs that disappeared, people laid off, canceled contracts,” she said. “And that was quite a bit of money when we think, nearing upwards of $16 million in paychecks for local folks.”
