Jury Trials Delayed Until Sept. 21 In Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court
Jury trials in Cuyahoga County won’t resume until at least Sept. 21 after Common Pleas Court judges on Monday voted to extend a moratorium that was expected to be lifted next week. Students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) will remain in remote learning through Jan. 22, the end of the second quarter. In a recorded message to families Monday, CMSD CEO Eric Gordon said he’s concerned about an increase in COVID-19 cases following the winter holiday break. “Public health experts anticipate this spike will continue to worsen through the holiday and into January, and possibly through February, before finally beginning to subside in early spring when COVID-19 vaccines are expected to begin reaching our communities,” he said.

Dr. Thomas Gilson, Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, announced Friday he has requested refrigerated trucks in preparation for a surge in COVID-19 deaths. The county reached that threshold in the last week, Gilson said. “In conversations with funeral homes, they are reporting they are busy but not overwhelmed. There is not a storage issue right now,” Gilson said.
