When Will Ohio Reach Herd Immunity?
As COVID-19 cases are declining in Ohio, new research suggests Ohio will not reach herd immunity until November. Health officials announced Monday that nearly 39 percent of the state’s population is fully vaccinated, but many wonder if Ohio will reach the benchmark for herd immunity of at least 70 percent. That’s when enough of the population is immune to COVID-19 that new infections are unlikely and when some experts say there could be a full return to normalcy.

A Federal Fund For Victims Services Faces An Uncertain Future
When the May Dugan Center on Cleveland’s West side received a $1 million grant from the fund established by the Victims Of Crime Act (VCOA) in 2017, the social services agency started a trauma recovery center. The next year, they decided to focus on victims of one type of crime: felonious assaults – people who have been shot or badly hurt. Survivors have a long list of needs beyond physically and mentally recovering from trauma, starting right after the crime is committed, the center’s Sue Marasco said.

Updated: 3:40 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020 Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), who recently recovered from COVID-19 after a stay in a hospital intensive care unit, implored Ohioans yesterday to keep their guard up against the virus. "I came out of this ok, and I’m very fortunate,” he said. “I survived, I’m alive, but it very well could have gone the other way.”
Families Torn On How To Meet Child Care Needs During Pandemic
Many Ohio day cares have remained open for much of the pandemic, with protections in place to help limit the risk of an outbreak. Staff and children have to wear masks and wash their hands more frequently, many centers have taken additional steps to sanitize buildings, and the number of children in one room has been reduced. But all that extra work doesn’t erase Northeast Ohio parents’ concerns about sending children to day care.
