Should Campaign Finance Limits Apply To Cuyahoga County Elected Offices?
At its meeting Tuesday, Cuyahoga County Council will begin discussion on a charter amendment that would give council the authority to enact campaign finance regulations. The proposed amendment doesn't include any limits on donations. It only allows for regulations. It was one of the recommendations of the county charter review commission earlier this month. The amendment’s author William Tarter Jr said the commission considered adding campaign finance limits as part of the county charter, but they decided that detail was better left to council.
Plain Dealer Staff Honor Victims Of Capital Gazette Shooting
Current and former Plain Dealer staff gathered Thursday evening to honor the five employees of the Capital Gazette newspapers shot to death in Annapolis, Maryland. They huddled in the lobby of the Plain Dealer’s production facility to stay out of the rain, in view of the newspaper’s rows of printing machines. They held signs that said “Journalism Matters” and “We Stand With the Capital Gazette.”
Akron Ballot Measure Could Shift Primary To May
This November, Akron voters will decide whether to move the city’s primary election from September to May. More than 6,000 Akron voters signed petitions to get the measure on the ballot and city council approved it at a special meeting Tuesday evening. Mayor Dan Horrigan, who supports the initiative, said a May primary would save taxpayers money and increase voter turnout. Five city council members opposed the ballot measure – which triggered the petition process.
Lake Erie Polluted By At Least 100 Million Pieces Of Plastic
There are more than 100 million pieces of plastic in Lake Erie. That is according Prof. Sherri Mason from the State University of New York at Fredonia who presented the State of the Great Lakes Tuesday at The City Club of Cleveland. Mason began her research in 2012 and found about 46,000 pieces of plastic per square kilometer in Lake Erie alone. She said there's an even larger amount in the sediment at the bottom of the lake and in the rivers that feed it.

President Trump's Stop In Lima Excites
By Barb Aguiano, WBOI President Donald Trump’s Motorcade drew crowds of residents as he made his way to Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, where Trump spoke to workers who make tanks for the U.S. Army. The state's traditional Democrat-leaning workers swung for Trump in 2016, and he has made numerous visits there. The workers of Padrone’s Pizza were so excited the president would drive by by their pizzeria on his way to the plant that they made a sign welcoming Trump and asking him to stop in.
