In Woodmere Village, More Than Half Of Council Faces Recall Vote
Woodmere Village will decide Tuesday whether to recall more than half of its council members. The tiny East Side suburb of about 700 people has been locked in a dispute over spending, a new sidewalk and maintenance of the village website. Four out of the village’s seven council members could lose their jobs. Ideastream’s Nick Castele spoke with Glenn Forbes about the issues driving the dispute. Who is pushing for this recall, and why do they want it?

COVID-19 Spread In Northeast Ohio Will Dictate End Of Local Mask Orders
Some Northeast Ohio county health departments may impose their own mask orders, even if Gov. Mike DeWine decides conditions have changed enough to lift the statewide mask mandate. Meanwhile a local epidemiology professor suggests the state should consider phasing out health orders slowly instead of removing everything at one time, to ensure protections for people who have not received the vaccine.

Registration Opens Thursday For Cleveland's First Mass Vaccination Site
More COVID-19 vaccine appointments are coming soon as registration for Ohio's first mass vaccination clinic in Cleveland opens Thursday, according to state officials. Those eligible can register for the clinic at the Wolstein Center on Cleveland State University's campus starting Thursday through the state's centralized scheduling tool.

New 'QuaranZine' Gives Voice, Sense of Community To Women Of Color
She appears as a whisper between clouds, a forgotten ghost in the pale blue sky, and yet even still, she never fails to capture my attention. This is an excerpt from a poem titled “Lunarphilia” by Mi Row. It’s about Row’s adoration of the moon. Row is a recent Ohio State University graduate and member of local advocacy organization Ohio Progressive Asian Women’s Leadership – or OPAWL. “Lunarphilia” was created for OPAWL’s latest project – a “QuaranZine.”

Staying Home During The Pandemic Is Dangerous For Domestic Violence Victims
People across the world, and here in Northeast Ohio, have been stuck in their homes for the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but for some who are suffering from domestic violence, what’s inside the house can be just as dangerous as what’s outside. Deaths resulting from domestic violence incidents increased by 35 percent in Ohio from July 2019 through June 2020, according to the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. This increase in violence, during the pandemic, has also led to record numbers of people seeking help from shelters across the state.

As Eviction Moratorium Wanes, Some Cleveland-Area Tenants Already Out
Marlisa Williams said her problems started in the basement. Cracked pipes led to a slushy mess on the floor. Then the water spread upstairs, soaking the carpets on the main floor of her rented house in the Cleveland suburb of Euclid. Williams, who was raising three kids while running a catering business, said she called her landlord to ask for repairs, but the problem didn’t get fixed.
