Elections Board and County Seek to Increase Voter Registration and Participation
As part of National Voter Registration day, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections set up registration site at libraries and community centers across the county. Near the corner of West 25th and Clark in Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood, passersby are greeted in Spanish and asked if they’re registered to vote.
Disabilities No Longer a Barrier to Great Lakes' Waters
By Veronica Volk Julie Cataldo is strapped into a harness as she sits in her wheelchair just a few feet from the edge of the Erie Canal. A hydraulic lift hoists her from the chair and swings her out over the water. The lift lowers her into a kayak, and its operator adjusts her seat. This is Cataldo’s second time in a single kayak, and in a few minutes, she’s cruising alone down the Canal near Rochester, N.Y.

Ohio Elected Officials Offer Condolences after Las Vegas Shooting
Ohio public officials offered prayers, condolences and calls for a renewed focus on weapons after a gunman killed more than 50 people and injured hundreds in Las Vegas. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown called such shootings “one of the saddest aspects of our culture now.”

Literary Cleveland Rallies Northeast Ohio Writing Community
Northeast Ohio writers get the opportunity to share their work and ideas with other local writers at the upcoming Cleveland INKubator festival. It's a chance for aspiring writers to network with others already published, and is a sounding board for storytelling. This weeklong, free workshop is the brainchild of a local writer, inspired by a history of writers working together in the region. In 2014, Lee Chilcote was working as a journalist, but wanted to do something more community based.

Highs and Lows of Cleveland's History on Display at New Exhibit
More than 800 artifacts, some of which have never before been seen by the public, are now on display at a new exhibit called “Cleveland Starts Here.” It’s at the Western Reserve Historical Society, which is rebranding itself as the Cleveland History Center.

Documenting How Acacia Golf Course Became A Green Space
What was once home to golfers is now a spot for birders and dog walkers to enjoy the outdoors, right across from Beachwood Place in Lyndhurst. Six years ago the non-profit Conservation Fund purchased Acacia Country Club and deeded the land to Cleveland Metroparks with a mission to return the 155 acres to its natural state.
