  • Greater Cleveland RTA presented its 2019 budget for the first time Tuesday, and thanks to a limited infusion of state aid, the agency will likely get through 2019 with a positive balance. The 2019 budget projects small increases in fares as well as sales and tax revenue for RTA. “With an estimated beginning balance of $35.1 million, 2019 is starting strong,” said RTA’s Kay Satula, who presented the budget at its first hearing. But ridership continues to decrease. Satula says that it could have been worse.

  • A federal judge ruled Wednesday that a former U.S. Attorney in Northeast Ohio cannot defend a drug company against lawsuits brought by Cleveland and Cuyahoga County over the opioid crisis. Carole Rendon joined law firm BakerHostetler after the Trump Administration asked her to resign as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio in 2017. She’s been defending Endo Pharmaceuticals in a massive group of lawsuits brought by local governments against drug companies.
  • The Cleveland International Film Festival kicks off its 43rd season of screening independent features, documentaries and shorts from around the world at Tower City Cinemas on Wednesday. But CIFF's effort to expand its footprint in Northeast Ohio brings the festival into two local arts districts this year. "CIFF West" will screen films in the Gordon Square Arts District the first weekend of the festival at the Capitol Theatre and Near West Theatre.
