Cleveland City Council to Review Mayor's Neighborhoods Plan
Cleveland City Council received a first look Monday night at legislation to kick off Mayor Frank Jackson’s $25 million neighborhood development plan. The plan would use proceeds from a bond sale for the construction of new homes, rehabilitation of old ones, mortgage assistance and small business support in neighborhoods hurt by years of disinvestment. Jackson is also proposing to promote youth employment and violence interruption efforts. The city would spend an additional $5 million to demolish vacant, dilapidated homes around elementary schools.

Cleveland Fires Officer Who Fatally Shot Tamir Rice, Citing Job Application
The city of Cleveland has fired the police officer who shot a 12-year-old boy in November 2014, saying Officer Timothy Loehman was terminated for providing false information on his job application. Loehmann fatally shot Tamir Rice within seconds of arriving at a city park. The 12-year-old had been playing with what turned out to be an air gun. A 9-1-1 caller said the gun was “probably fake,” but that information was not relayed to responding officers.

Adam Pendleton's 'Black Dada' at MOCA
Adam Pendleton, a rising star in the world of contemporary art from New York City, has his largest, solo-museum exhibit on view now at MOCA Cleveland. As an African American, Pendleton creates a new visual language with his abstract work which he calls Black Dada. "I describe Black Dada as a way to talk about the future while talking about the past and that means it's essentially a conversation with our present moment and it's a confluence of what has come before us and what is about to come," Pendleton said.

Could Investors Help Clean Up Lead Paint in Cleveland? Cuyahoga County Wants to Know
Cleaning up lead paint from contaminated homes takes a lot of money. By one estimate from the Cleveland Foundation, it could cost $50 million to make some of the city’s most distressed neighborhoods safe from the toxin. So who’s going to pay for that? Cuyahoga County and philanthropic leaders think private investors might be swayed to put up the cash. This financial model is called “pay for success,” and it’s becoming more popular with local governments.

This week we’re talking about immigration, as part of the series Unsettled: Immigration in Ohio. We’re using Painesville in Lake County as a starting point. The city recently issued a policy to have police report arrests for certain crimes to immigration authorities. This has drawn some strong backlash from activists, and the ACLU. For one perspective we speak with Jose Ramon.

NBA Finals Game 1 Goes to Golden State Warriors Again
The Golden State Warriors took a one game lead in the NBA Finals last night by overwhelming the Cleveland Cavaliers 113 to 91. It’s the third year in a row the Cavaliers have lost the first game of the best-of-seven Finals. Both of Cleveland’s leading scorers Kyrie Irving and LeBron James talked about Game 1 almost as if it didn’t count, saying it was good to get it out of the way. Kyrie Irving did not sound the least bit alarmed about losing the first game to the heavily favored Warriors.

Renovations Create Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum '2.0'
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum opened its doors in 1995 along the Cleveland lakeshore. While the Rock Hall's I.M. Pei building is iconic and recognized around the world it's been a challenging exhibition space, according to president and C.E.O Greg Harris. "Architecturally I think the I.M. Pei building is one of the finest buildings in our country. It's a real statement, it's a strong building. But to function as a museum, it's a giant, glass tent sitting on the edge of a big lake," Harris admits.
