Ohio's Migrant Farmworkers Need COVID-19 Protections, Advocates Say
Local advocates for migrant workers are calling for more protections against the coronavirus on Ohio’s farms. Protective measures like handwashing and social distancing are not possible under farmworkers’ current living conditions, said Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) Managing Attorney Eugenio Mollo. “The close proximity of individuals in overcrowded dwellings is of deep concern, and we need mandates to address this issue,” Mollo said. “In Ohio, many of them are living in employer-provided individual housing units without running water.”

Playhouse Square Completes Construction Of Lumen Tower
Construction on the largest Downtown Cleveland residential development in 40 years is complete, Playhouse Square announced Thursday. Construction of the nearly 400-foot tall Lumen Tower began in 2018. Located at Euclid Avenue and East 17th Street, it includes a parking garage, outdoor terrace and more than 300 apartments – of which 86 are already leased, according to Playhouse Square President and CEO Gina Vernaci.

Ohio Looks To 'Good Guy Hackers' For Election Cybersecurity Help
We're about to get hacked – on purpose. The Ohio Secretary of State’s Office is allowing cybersecurity researchers to probe for weak spots in the state’s election computer systems. The “vulnerability disclosure policy,” announced this month, invites experts to search Ohio’s election IT systems for flaws, as long as they don’t take sensitive data or cause damage.

FBI Raids Cleveland Offices Linked To Ukrainian Oligarchs
Updated: 2:12 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 FBI agents raided a Downtown Cleveland high-rise office building that has been linked to Ukrainian oligarchs in a 2019 lawsuit alleging money laundering. A bureau spokeswoman confirmed agents were present at One Cleveland Center on East 9th Street Tuesday morning. The building belongs to Optima Management Group, a real estate company that also owns 55 Public Square and is an investor in the Westin Cleveland hotel.

Postcards From The Pandemic: A 10-Year-Old Yearns For Recess And Friends
When the coronavirus pandemic forced children to leave their classrooms in the spring, they had to quickly adapt to a life without in-person interaction. Now they're sitting in limbo during a summer with few open pools, recreation centers or entertainment venues. Meanwhile, they wait to find out what school will look like for them in the fall. One of those kids is 10-year-old Kahlil Williams of University Heights, a student at Gesu Catholic School.

Students At Heart Of Cleveland Teacher's Poetry
Many artists have a day job, but that doesn’t necessarily mean work and art remain separate. Quartez Harris teaches second grade in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood and worries about inequities students face, currently exacerbated during the pandemic. “Some schools couldn’t afford basic hand soap before sanitizer was considered an urgency,” Harris said.
