U.S. Calls for Help in Iraq Rebuffed
The Bush administration has asked dozens of countries to contribute troops to help stabilize Iraq. Some countries, such as France and India, say they will not send troops without a clearer U.N. mandate. The administration has run into similar problems asking wealthy European nations to contribute money to rebuild Iraq. NPR's Michele Kelemen reports.

Another U.S. soldier is shot and killed in Baghdad. More than 30 American troops have died since major combat actions ended in May. English police discover the body of a man believed to be a missing weapons expert at the center of a controversy over Britain's prewar intelligence on Iraq. Pfc. Lynch Receives Hero's Welcome
Pfc. Jessica Lynch returns home to a flag-waving welcome in Palestine, W.Va., and speaks to the media for the first time since her dramatic rescue in April. IAEA Hopes to Probe Possible Looting at Iraqi Plants
The IAEA calls on the Bush administration to allow its teams to return to Iraq to investigate reports of widespread looting of Iraqi nuclear facilities. Self-Proclaimed Baghdad Mayor in U.S. Custody
U.S. forces arrest self-proclaimed Baghdad mayor Mohammed Mohsen Zubaidi, an Iraqi exile, for his "inability to support the coalition military authority and for exercising authority which was not his," U.S. Central Command says. CDC Issues SARS Warning for Visitors to Toronto
The Centers for Disease Control issues a health alert for travelers visiting Toronto, where the deadly respiratory disease known as SARS has killed at least 14 and infected more than 300.
