Updated: 2:12 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 FBI agents raided a Downtown Cleveland high-rise office building that has been linked to Ukrainian oligarchs in a 2019 lawsuit alleging money laundering. A bureau spokeswoman confirmed agents were present at One Cleveland Center on East 9th Street Tuesday morning. The building belongs to Optima Management Group, a real estate company that also owns 55 Public Square and is an investor in the Westin Cleveland hotel.

Larry McDonald, the officer who killed fleeing suspect Vincent Belmonte, Tuesday in East Cleveland. “This officer has been a huge problem for a long time,” said East Cleveland activist Justin Anderson during a Friday press conference outside city hall. “I have begged the mayor, I have pleaded with him. Every time this officer did something that was outrageous, I begged the mayor to terminate him.”

Updated: 5:45 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020 Two out-of-state far-right activists have been charged with intimidating voters in Cuyahoga County. According to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office, the scheme was allegedly hatched by Jacob Wohl, 22, and Jack Burkman, 54, to deter people from voting by mail. The pair is accused of sending more than 8,100 robocalls on Aug. 26 to phone numbers in Cleveland and East Cleveland.

Updated: 5:25 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020 The Shaker Heights police officer who made an obscene gesture at demonstrators outside the presidential debate in Cleveland last month has been fired. In a letter sent Thursday, Shaker Heights Police Chief Jeff DeMuth informed Cpl. Michael Spuzzillo of the decision to terminate. According to DeMuth’s letter, Spuzzillo broke 11 of the department’s rules and standards when he flashed a middle finger at demonstrators while driving an unmarked police van outside the Sept. 29 debate site.

The justice, who died last Friday, will be buried Sept. 29 at Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband of 56 years, Marty Ginsburg.

Updated: 4:40 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25 Two Cuyahoga County corrections officers were found not guilty on three out of five charges in the alleged beating of an inmate at the county jail. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on two of the charges against John Wilson: felonious assault and interfering with civil rights.
