Ohio Begins Vaccinating Some Prison Inmates And Staff
Ohio’s prison authority is vaccinating inmates and staff against the coronavirus at three detention facilities starting this week, but vaccines are limited to inmates under medical care. According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, vaccinations will be available to 593 inmates and 456 staff members. The shipments began arriving Monday.

Summit County Nursing Homes Improvement Plan Released
Nursing homes often struggle to retain staff, so they should consider partnering with local colleges to train workers, according to recommendations released Thursday by the Summit County Nursing Homes and Facilities Task Force. The task force has been meeting for a year and released a report to the community with suggestions on how to improve Summit County's long-term care facilities.

Sen. Sherrod Brown Joins Calls For Trump's Removal
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) has joined the list of Democratic lawmakers calling on the Cabinet and Vice President Mike Pence to attempt to remove President Donald Trump from office after Wednesday’s storming of the U.S. Capitol. Brown blamed the president for the vandalism undertaken by pro-Trump extremists, which he termed “domestic terrorism.”

Cuyahoga County Council Committee Recommends New Sports Facility Fund
Cuyahoga County Council will soon consider a proposed ordinance to create a special fund for maintenance and construction costs at major league sports facilities, after the county finance committee’s favorable recommendation of the proposal Monday.

Cleveland Sees Biggest Increases in COVID-19 Hospitalizations Since May
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reports statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations have reached their highest number since the pandemic began. The previous high was in late April. Locally, COVID-19 hospitalizations over the past few weeks were at their highest since May at both Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals. Officials said the biggest increases have been in younger patients.

Federal Judge Sets October 2020 Trial Date In Pharmacy Opioid Case
U.S. District Judge Dan Polster has added a new opioid trial to the calendar, this one litigating Cuyahoga and Summit counties’ claims against pharmacy chains. Polster, who is overseeing the thousands of opioid-related lawsuits, set a trial date of Oct. 13, 2020 in an order issued Tuesday. The two counties are amending their lawsuits to accuse pharmacies of failing to look out for suspicious prescriptions for opioid painkillers, with the judge’s approval.

Artists Design Superheroes For Kids With Illnesses And Disabilities
Ask kids what makes a superhero and you’ll get many beautiful ideas, said Lisa Kollins, founder of the Superhero Project. She would know as she’s asked nearly 300 kids for their thoughts. Volunteer artists then take those ideas and create superhero characters for youth with serious illnesses or disabilities. The superhero designs are then printed on posters and mailed to the youth.
