Incumbent Bob Gibbs Re-Elected By 18 Points In Reliably Red 7th District
M.L. Schultze Ohio’s reliably red 7th Congressional District will remain that way, with Republican Bob Gibbs winning his fifth consecutive term despite a well-funded challenge from Democrat Ken Harbaugh. Gibbs’ performance didn’t quite match the win Donald Trump chalked up in the 7th two years ago, but his 18-point edge was convincing by any measure. Gibbs said the nation and his district have seen unprecedented economic growth in the last two years, and the nation is “safer and stronger.”

Trump Rallies In Cleveland On Eve Of Election Day
President Trump dropped into Ohio the afternoon before Election Day in a bid to boost the Republican ticket here. Trump, joined by his daughter Ivanka, called a number of GOP candidates to share the stage with him during his hour-long rally at the I-X Center in Cleveland. The president was also scheduled to speak in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Cape Girardeau, Mo.

After Midterm Election Struggles In Ohio, A Call For A New Party Brand For Democrats
The Democrats had high hopes for yesterday's mid-term election, and the party succeeded in retaking the House of Representatives. But in Ohio, the GOP again swept the major statewide offices, led by gubernatorial candidate Mike DeWine. Ohio Congressman and Democrat Tim Ryan won re-election in Ohio's 13th district, and he's challenged his party leadership before.

Willoughby Hills Rejects Charter Amendments, But Uncertainty Remains
Voters in Willoughby Hills said "no" on Tuesday to nine charter amendments that would have given its city council greater oversight of the mayor's office, including the power to fire the Mayor. The vote comes one month after Mayor Robert Weger tried to remove six of seven council members.

Cleveland Public Power Needs Infrastructure Upgrades, City Official Says
Cleveland City Council questioned utility officials on Tuesday about how they’ll prevent power outages this summer. But the conversation turned toward Cleveland Public Power’s long-term needs. CPP leaders said they’ve stepped up maintenance in recent months, trimming more trees around power lines. They’re also deploying sensors this summer to detect problems in the system, Commissioner Ivan Henderson said.

Cleveland Police Must Turn New Policies Into Action, Monitor Says
The monitor overseeing Cleveland’s police reform agreement says the city is at a “critical turning point,” and now must put new policies into practice. The city, the monitoring team and the Justice Department provided an update on the consent decree to U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver on Tuesday afternoon. “This is the point at which paper must be transformed into sustained, ongoing practice,” Monitor Matthew Barge wrote in his team’s latest semiannual report. He added that the city “still has a distance to travel” until it fully complies with the consent decree.

Needle Exchange Programs In Ohio Double Over Last Three Years
Needle exchange programs — also called "syringe services" programs — allow drug users to swap dirty needles for clean ones, but also can offer HIV screening, fentanyl test strips, and referrals to addiction treatment and other social services.

Cleveland And Cuyahoga County Could Clear Way For Return Of Scooters
Cleveland and Cuyahoga County are preparing legislation that would welcome shared, motorized scooters back to city sidewalks. County council will take a first look Tuesday at an ordinance allowing the county’s sustainability department to license bike and scooter share programs. At the city level, Councilman Kerry McCormack says scooter legislation should be coming in the next few weeks.

Indictment Alleges Cuyahoga County Jail Guards Attacked, Neglected Inmates
A special grand jury indicted five Cuyahoga County corrections officers Monday on civil rights and other charges. Attorney General Dave Yost’s office accuses the guards of mistreating jail inmates. One of the guards is accused of failing to seek medical help for an inmate who later died of a drug overdose. Two pairs of guards are accused of physically assaulting inmates who were strapped down in restraint chairs.

Cleveland Staffs Rec Centers With Social Workers To Help Kids With Trauma
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson’s office says it has hired most of the social workers it needs to help kids at recreation centers who have endured trauma. Tracy Martin-Thompson, who leads the city’s efforts to reduce violence among young people, briefed Cleveland City Council Monday morning.
